La Maddalena stands out for its commitment to removing architectural barriers and promoting inclusive tourism. Thanks to these initiatives, the island has obtained the prestigious Bandiera Lilla, a recognition that certifies the attention dedicated to making La Maddalena accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities or reduced mobility.

The local administration has implemented several targeted interventions to improve the usability of public spaces and infrastructure, making the island a welcoming place for all visitors.

Access to the sea

At Tegge beach the Sea Tracsystem has been installed, allowing individuals with mobility challenges to enter the water independently, thus ensuring an inclusive and safe seaside experience.

Inclusive facilities and services

To improve accessibility in public places and essential services, several interventions have been implemented, including:

  • Access ramps installed at all banks in the historic center to facilitate entry for people with disabilities.
  • At the Cala Balbiano harbor, a person lift (hoist) has been installed to facilitate disembarkation from boats for individuals with reduced mobility.
  • The Inclusive Playground offers spaces and equipment designed to welcome children with diverse needs.
  • The Music Stand, located in the main square, has been made accessible thanks to the construction of a ramp that allows everyone to enjoy cultural events.

Paths and infrastructure

Thanks to its participation in the P.E.B.A. project (Plans for the Elimination of Architectural Barriers) and its inclusion in the R.A.RE Registry (Connected Ramps), the island's pedestrian paths and ramps are being progressively improved to ensure easier access for everyone.

These interventions testify to La Maddalena's constant commitment to improving the quality of life for both citizens and tourists, making the island an ideal destination for anyone wishing to enjoy its beauty in total safety and freedom.

Nature

La Maddalena is a true natural paradise, characterized by breathtaking landscapes and extraordinary biodiversity. The archipelago, part of the La Maddalena Archipelago National Park, comprises over 60 islands and islets, featuring a unique and protected natural environment. Its crystal-clear waters, jagged coastlines, and lush Mediterranean scrub offer scenery of rare beauty.

Nature trails lead through fragrant pine forests and spectacular cliffs to panoramic viewpoints from which you can admire the surrounding islands and the turquoise sea. The archipelago is home to numerous protected species of flora and fauna, including the Audouin's gull and the Caretta caretta, the sea turtle that serves as a symbol of the Mediterranean.

The flora of the archipelago is typically Mediterranean, featuring rich and varied vegetation that includes aromatic plants such as myrtle and mastic, alongside junipers and wild olive trees. The Mediterranean scrub dominates the landscape, offering intense colors and scents, while pioneer plants adapted to extreme conditions of wind and salt spray, such as the sea daffodil and rock samphire, grow along the coasts.

The surrounding waters are populated by a great variety of marine life. The Posidonia oceanica meadows, which are fundamental to the marine ecosystem, provide shelter to numerous fish species and contribute to protecting the coastlines from erosion.

Ecotourism activities

For those wishing to explore nature sustainably, numerous ecotourism activities are available, including excursions with expert environmental guides, sailing trips, and trekking along many scenic trails.

La Maddalena represents a perfect destination for those seeking an authentic connection with nature, within a context of rare beauty and environmental harmony.
